Yes, that would solve the problem. [edit] Unless you came across an exotic shell whose writers wanted their program to be able to take "*" as an argument, so they used "X" as a wildcard instead. [/edit]

If you are using a microsoft compiler and link with setargv.obj found in the compiler's lib directory, the setargv.obj will expand wild cards * and ? before calling main() as you described in your original post.
So could you use WinMain()?
