    3DSM Animated Character Onscreen

Hello! Let's get straight to the point. I have a modeled chara in 3D StudioMax. I would like to write a application in C++ that would allow me to show the chara on screen (in Windows - like the assistants in Office ) animated (it should be transparent, only the chara visible and Windows, no black background). I searched google in hope of finding something useful but all I found is Microsoft Agent (I would like it to be cross platform). Maybe someone here can give me a hint...I know C++ (I think I'm at the advanced level now ) but I know a little about OpenGL or DirectX (I think I will need OpenGL if a want to do crossplatform). Is there an easier way of handling this (other than OpenGL and DirectX)...and after all...is it even possible?

    THX in advance!
