    cin.peek() and cin.putback()

    i just read about them in the C++ book i have and was wondering if they could be used to replace what is typed with an * (like for a password). If not how do i go about doing this?

    (PS- Sam's Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days really is a crappy book )

    That's your opinion, since you're a nubee forgive me if I don't take it seriously.

    i wouldnt say im a noob, ive been around a while, i dont have a large knowledge of C++ but i dont consider myself a noob. And yes its my opinion and im entitled to it as are you, im assuming you like the book I personally did not, as do some of my fellow board members. But we are all entitled to our opinion. Thanks for the link ill check it out.

    I've not read the book...

    ...but the book made it to publication so it has to have some good things going for it. Either way I don't really care. Sorry. Hope the link was useful though.

    You'll see the same opinion a lot from senior members in the countless "book threads".
