I tried learning it on my own with books and I found that I could learn the basic stuff and that but to actually remember it and stuff was harder because I really didnt do any examples or anything. The book my college gave me was also a bad book. The best way to learn c++ is to take a course, it allows you to be taught using a curriculum that has worked for many students and you can easily get help and clarification on any problems given and such.
