    Maybe your inability to understanding the teaching is due to your lack of understanding in C++. If you don't understand something, then go back and read the chapter before it. If you don't understand that, then go back as far as you need to until you fully understand what you're reading.

    I do and i begin to understand bits of it but not the bigger picture because the books I have just add in bits of code without telling you about it.

    most books and tutorials on MS-Windows programming assume you have a pretty thorough understandanging of C language, and c++ if the book/tutorial was written in c++. They make no attempt to teach the language -- so if you don't have a solid background in C and/or c++ then you will get lost very quickly.
