to change a word in the file like, all the words" A" will now be "¢".

you should use getline() to input the filename if you expect to include spaces in it. The >> operator will stop at the first space that you type.

btw when you use getline it should be in this way: getline(cin,inputString);
but with cin.getline, it goes like this: cin.getline(inputString,size,delimiter)

or have i wrongly understood this concept?

They are used for two different objects:

getline(cin,inputString) -- variable inputString is std::string object.

getline(cin,inputString);

cin.getline(inputString) -- variable inputString is a C-style char array (this is almost identical to fgets() C function)
