    Borland C++Builder Quick Question

    Hi all,

    I'm new to C++. I have recently bought "Sams Teach Yourself C++ in 24 hours". It comes with "C++ BuilderX Personal Edition". I installed the program, and upon visiting Borlands website, I found that there is no talk about C++BuilderX. Why is this? Is this out of date? Do I need to download Version 6 which is the new version? Is it free - if not, where can I get a free one preferably from the same company?

    Sorry for asking so many questions - I'm a newbie!

    Thank you in advance. God bless you all.

    James

    I've used Borland IDE's before - they're pretty good, I like them. Just be aware that they do on occasion use some non-standard libraries.

    So this IDE is the best free one around? On that page I notice they have several versions - according to my program I have the personal edition. However, there seem to be two separate versions on that page. Which when do I use? Is this version ever updated, or should I be using another compiler?

    I didn't say that. I just said they're pretty good. Personally I think the best free one is Bloodshed's Dev-C++. The only thing I would change about it is that it doesn't have a visual environment where you can design windows programs by dragging and dropping compnents on to forms.

    Which when do I use?
    Well that's up to you. If C++ BuilderX Personal came with the book - why are you trying to download it? Personal's probably fine for you - you won't be needing any high-tech features for a while.
