    Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition

    I did a search for "Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition" on CProgramming.com's forums but I found no useful information.

    Does anyone know whether or not this software is any good? I was thinking about getting back into C++. The thing is, when I was fluent in C++, I only did simple things such as console calculators, guessing games, etc... I never really learned any advanced libraries or bought any advanced programs.

    What do you have to say about "Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition Beta 2?" Thanks.

    I tried it and switched over to dev-c++. ..why? well simply because I don't want to buy that and would rather use something that will last longer than a beta.

    That compiler seems pretty nice from what I can tell, but for basic programs either will be equally good to use.

    Well since its "free" from M$, then all you get is the bare-bones compiler. You don't get a whole bunch of libraries, and you don't get an IDE either.
    If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
    If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

    Ok thanks for the information. Does anyone know if it will be free forever if I download it? In other words, is the current version free and will it not force me to upgrade and start paying? Thanks.
