    Does linux have a built in C/C++ compiler?

    Yes. If you would like to compile straight C code, then you can use gcc. If you would like to compile C++ code, you can use g++. Pretty much all versions of Linux, and most shell accounts provide you with this program. It comes with Linux. Just type "man gcc" and "man g++" to learn more.
