Ok, no contest here. It's called 'Beginning Visual C++ 6' By: Ivor Horton. It is by far the best book. If you don't use visual c++, then you should. No contest, it is the ultimate book. It is far superior to all 11 books I've looked at. By far the best. Totally. Buy it.
Many people on mIRC suggested a 2 year old book: C++ How to Program by Dietel and Dietel.
I am not sure if I should get this book, but however, you should check it out as well as I should.
I also have C++ Primer Plus by Steven Prata, and it's a pretty good book so far from what I've read.

Deitel and Deitel will give you a good introduction into c++. It is full of exercises for you to do some of which are very challenging.
Free the weed!! Class B to class C is not good enough!!
And the FAQ is here :- http://faq.cprogramming.com/cgi-bin/smartfaq.cgi
I would recommend Sams Tech Yourself C++ in 21 days, but yet again I am also a beginnner to C++ and maybe not the best to offer advice on this matter, but it IS the one I am currently using. I find it to be very good, and easy reading.
PS. IF YOU HAVE A LIFE YOU WON'T FINISH THIS BOOK IN 21 DAYS.
It's just too long you need more time, it's about 800 some pages long.
There are some real morons in this world please do not become one of them, do not become a victim of moronitis. PROGRAMMING IS THE FUTURE...THE FUTURE IS NOW!!!!!!!!!
"...The only real game I thank in the world is baseball..." --Babe Ruth
"Life is beautiful"-Don Corleone right before he died.
"The expert on anything was once a beginner" -Baseball poster I own.
Left cprog on 1-3-2005. Don't know when I am coming back. Thanks to those who helped me over the years.
Hmm...Has anyone ever read Practical C++ by Rob McGregor? This is the book that I learned C++ from, and I still use it as a reference sometimes. I find it to be a good book, that is good for someone new to programming entirely.
What will people say if they hear that I'm a Jesus freak?
What will people do if they find that it's true?
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak, there is no disguising the truth!

Hm. I know this is contentious, but I learnt C (not C++) using Schildt's Teach Yourself C. Since then I've kind of used multiple books on C++... one that i like a lot is "Applications Programming in C++".. can't remember who it's by, but some of the exercises are quite helpful.
