ive learned everything i know from this sites tutorials, if that helps.
Try doing a search for c++ at amazon under books.
You can get reviews, product details, as well as read the 1st chapter for free. Im planning on buy directx and game engine books from there.
I appreciate the advice, however I am really looking for what most would consider a great C++ for someone who would be considered a beginner.
great? "The C++ Programming Language" then by the creator of C++.

No, that's a bad book for a beginner.Originally Posted by viaxd

When no one helps you out. Call google();
he said he knows C, so he's not a total beginner and it will be ok for him i think.Originally Posted by Sang-drax
As for complete beginner's books - "Accelerated C++" is pretty good.

Use the sites tutorials.
I came here only knowing server side languages and html. Now i have a firm grasp on the basics of c++ just from using the free tutorials.
free tutorials are ok but they are not progressive. when reading a book, you learn something in 1 chapter and then learn something on the second chapter by also using what you learned in the 1st chapter.

hmmm....any good books then? LOL!
I totally agree. The book's available widely on several different web sites, as well. It's a very good place to start learning. Here's a link to one of the online versions:Originally Posted by InvariantLoop

Also, the tutorials here at Cprog are wonderful because they're EXTREMELY short, most of the time. They're great for people with a small attention span, like me.
is that allowed? posting that link...Originally Posted by Krak

Need a good book to learn C++. No prior programming experience. I have been reading the tutorials on this site, but some stuff is still Greek or I would like a better explanation of a topic. Besides I don't have the time to just sit here & read all the tutorials. Thanx for suggestions
