Post Job Fields for C++? What Courses?

What type of college courses/degree's should one have before trying to earn a buck or two under companies for c++ programming? Ofcourse you need to know more than just plain c++, but sticking to c++&|API degree's/courses, what is needed?

And what are some of the more basic c++ degree's that companies like?

Kinda like A++ from CompTIA and Net++ type shyt.

Just curious cuz i want to start looking into colleges soon to see what i can get into, and see what i should be trying to get into.

Just FYI, if anyone is near or knows anythin good, i live in Washington, USA.

    Big thanks to any replies

Are you asking computer science program's curriculum? As long as you take all courses required for the program than you're good to go. Everybody has to take all the core courses and declare concentration. My school has (and some required courses): information system (JAVA and web), scientific (fortran and more math), system (ADA and software design), commercial (VB and accounting). And then you'll get to pick some elective courses.
I think web services and information are the trend now so plan accordingly.

wowy, little more advanced than i wanted to leep into from the getgo, and it sounds like that might be more expensive and harder to get into than i originally wished lol. Anything a little more starter friendly? Eventually id like to take that stuff but i kinda need to start small, for money reasons too lol.

Less advanced than 4-your college? You could try 2-year degree but that compares nothing to 4-year. Nothing. Employers would rather hire your peers from India for that kind of level.

Yes, those people who are "taking away our jobs". Really, I don't see what you can complain about when what YOU want to do is learn nothing, know nothing, and get that same job, while I'm sure the people over in India are smarter and harder working, AND willing to work for lower wages. Sure does suck that there's people competing with you - but is it fair to say, "You people stay over there in the dark ages, so we can have a better economy and import you for janitors"?

The point of my rant: Just do the 4-year thing at least, for my sake

sigh i really feel like blowing up at you, not for any bit of pride, more for putting words in my mouth. I did not mean by any means that i wish to "learn less for the same job". I, a poor man with a low chances to even get into a 4 year college, will have a bit of a hard time gaining access to said college. Putting the time and effort into it, is not a problem at all. And ofcourse, "learning" is not a problem either.

I really hate it when people try to put words in my mouth, ........es me off plainly.

By no means are you seeing wrong that i get kinda mad about oversea jobs however, why wouldent i? I mean its oversea jobs that ruin our economy. I totally understand the term 3rd world too. I know their life is not easy, i know my life is much better with much more opportunity, but why would i wish them over us(by us i mean the people holding green cards in the USA lol).

And yes, to all you people offsea's who see me saying "i want to protect my people first", i am a bush voter. Peace out.

*edit*and by oversea jobs i mean, i believe the term is "outsourcing", as in our jobs going oversea's".

Well a degree doesn't guarntee a job anyway. I know plenty of people with big fancy degrees working in telemarketing or customer service. I think I read somewhere that about half the people with a degree end up working in a different field from the degree that they got. Of course that could just be the major they picked. I was unlucky and tried to get a cheap Associates at a tech college they went bankrupt within my first year. I am sure if you are determined enough you probably will find a way.

Sorry, I misunderstood you; I missed the part about expenses, and only read "little more advanced than i wanted to leep into from the getgo" followed by "lol very true, i forgot about those.. ahem... kind people[/sarcasm].". My apologies

I understand this, but then it IS the fault of the companies themselves; if they weren't out for cheap workers, there would be no problem. Of course, you can't blame them for wanting to cut costs.. so really, who IS to blame? Nobody

So true. And, although I know it's something of a different ballgame, I know of plenty of immigrants too, who have engineering PhD's, who are now working as janitors, telemarketers, paper delivery people, etc.. But that has to do with official recognition of degrees, not so much about job availability.

Don't forget you can always get a job.. with any degree.. simply by going back to college to teach everything you have learned.

what i don't understand is why you need a college to get a job ? you can learn programming alone using google for examples and all other things you need and you may learn more than in a college, as i think the company is interested in what you can do and know and not where you learned it

lol A: learning c++ isnt the problem, but unless you find a fully explained interactive course, for a 4 yr degree, or somethin to the like of that lol, i think college would get me goin better.

But ya, learning C++, no prob, OGL, slight more, but still plenty of online resources to get me started before i buy another 3 books lol. DX, well thats prob a book only solution, havent seen many full good online resources. But overall, id be in a college right now if i could get everything lined up.

Why cheat myself, there is a reason people flock to colleges, compared to google .

Anyway hunter, ya i was almost positive you misunderstood me, which is why i refrained from stupid swearing lol. But np, its all good

    existenz:
While it's true you can learn a lot from google and tutorials, it isn't guaranteed. For example, I've done all my learning from the internet (mostly) and from books (to a much lesser extent); and I consider myself more proficient with C++ than some CS students. The problem is, I know very little about data structures and algorithms, i.e. the various trees and how to manipulate them, quicksort, binary sorts, encryption. And, until a little while ago, I had no idea what a binary tree was. While I'd used the containers in the STL for some time, I had no idea how they worked, and didn't understand when they should be used, or why. I just used vectors for everything, because they looked like the more familiar arrays. And I never used maps, because they were just one of those 'other' containers. While I've improved dramatically by now, there are still plenty of things that I'll never bother learning unless I am forced to do so in a class, things that are undoubtedly important if I want to get a job.

It is in fact only because of cprog that I even know about the holes in my knowledge
