To learn linux, download or buy a linux distrobution, install it, and play with it. Read HOWTOs. Solve problems.

To learn C or C++, buy a book on it. Do some practice programming. Start a project.

If you want to learn Linux but don't want to have to install it (i reccomend you do though) you can download a copy of Knoppix(Linux ISO.org ), and burn it to a CD and then you can run Linux right off a CD, and like ygfperson said, the best way to learn is to play with it. Once you start using it, you will realize it isnt that difficult to use.

To learn C++, I reccomend doing everything ygfperson said, since he is normally right, but also get t oknow some fellow beginner programmers and have everyone try to write the same program and help each other with any problems you may have.

P.S: This is my 200th post, so it would be very nice if next time I logged on someone had a nice chocolate cake waiting for my and maybe some free books

I would recommend you to install slackware as well. And if you really know what you are doing, go gentoo.
    slackware 10.0; kernel 2.6.7
gcc 3.4.0; glibc 2.3.2; vim editor
    migrating to freebsd 5.4

Qs: What is slackware? And how do I get it? Is it easier to learn with slackware than Redhat and/or Suse?

    Thank you for your help.

Slackware is a Linux distrobution for people who really want to learn alot about how Linux works. You can get it at LinuxISO . I'd say its easier to learn with RedHat but with Slackware you can really get a better understanding of how Linux works.
