    Objective C

I didn't know where to put this, the C++ board seems as appropriate as any place ont his side. Anyway I justw anted to know if there wa sanyone on this board who has used objective c. I only just heard of it today, I guess it's been out for like ten years or something and it is based on SmallTalk as well as ansi C. I'm googling looking for more examples of this, is there any reason I should get into 'objective c'? How is it different than C++? Is it superior, inferior? (I suspect the latter).

Ok thanks to anyone who repsonds.

Do you suppose maybe they mean Object Oriented C?

Sorry about guessing... But since its old... And I don't remember when the name "C++" was introduced. It sounds like something they came-up with before they nailed-down the C++ moniker (?)

No, C++ and Objective-C are completely different.

Yeah a stated objective C and C++ are different. I didn't know this for a while. I don't know much about objective C, all I want to know is which is superior. I assume C++ because C++ is cool.

EDIT: I have been reading and it doesn't exactly say much about objective C. I've never heard of objective C until today, and I guess somehow it's different than C++ because of the way objects can interact with each other. HmmmMmmm.

And you've come to this conclusion after several years of experience with both Objective-C and C++?

Personally I would concentrate on C++ - Better compiler support, more developers, more libraries, full ISO/ANSI standard, better researched.........etc

No, because I've been programming in C++ for over a year and a half, and only now have I EVER heard of the objective C programming language. I take it it's not as popular as C++. Is that a wrong statement?

    EDIT:
my statement was to cela, not u fordy

Yes. Comparing languages in a general manner is a waste of time, even trying it requires that you be completely unbiased which is pretty much impossible, and very knowledgeable about all aspects of both languages being compared. Anything less is stupid, no offense.

uhh...do you realize I'm simply talking about popularity? i.e which one is used more...care to rephrase your statement? It's a fact that some programming languages are used more than others, how can you not compare that?

EDIT: The fact that C++ is used more is an unbiased opinion (fact imo). It's just more popular, probably for the reasons fordy listed, but also objective C doesn't seem to offer much over C++.

Okay, I'll rephrase my statement. Are you sure that C++ is more popular? Do you have numbers to prove it? Before I learned Perl I thought it was just a CGI scripting language limited to internet use, my lack of understanding resulted in making the wrong conclusions. I see you doing the same thing, you don't know much at all about Objective-C so you assume it's not used much. And don't snap back at me, I couldn't care less about your assumptions, I'm just letting you know, so don't shoot the messenger.

why is everyone so touchy...i didn't snap...calm down...

well anyway I assume it isn't as popular as C++ because I've never heard of anyone using it until now in any type of application ever. I've heard of almost every other language being used, even the older and more obscure languages such as cobol, ada, and pascal (among others including eiffel, fortran, and snobol) but I've never heard of objective C. I think most people will agree that C++ is more popular because it is used more (I don't think any single language is used more than C++).

I seriously don't even know what that person is talking about, i didn't snap at anyone, I never do, but lately everyone seems so touchy about everything.

well anyway, does anyone here use objective C on a regular basis? I'd like to talk to you someone with experience with it.
