I'm just born with no brains! I just got into Borland C++ 2.0.

Well not that long ago my parents gave me a present to toy around with. Today I got really excited and really got into using Borland C++ 2.0. The funny thing is I use the included IDE to program the stupidest program that puts a dot on the screen except its all in assembly. hehe

It advertises that it can make Windows applications in 32-bit however it looks too hard for me.

I've surveyed all the thick 5000 pages of texts that came with the compiler for Windows and there's just so much. Something about APIs that I'm clueless about is in there. DLL. DPMI. blah. etc.

I mean, considering that you can get a new version of an old compiler for free, and there are free IDEs for it, you should just get your parents a refund, maybe?
Borland C++ Compiler version 5.5 Free Download Is Here !!!

Thanks. I downloaded 5.5 and I don't know how to program any graphics for Windows. Also there is no instructions for the free version.

It depends on what you want to accomplish, but I would start with a nice library. SDL2 might work on Borland; I don't know.

Thanks again. I remember back in my college days they always had nice text and special softwares that you couldn't get anywhere else. It's just that you had to be connected to the school to get their softwares. I've been out of college for decades almost. During my time away from college I notice a lack of serious study material. All the stuffs online are weak compared to college stuffs. However that is what you get for free versus paid. However free does have its place for supplements though, but you need the official texts. I play chess on the side and I've surveyed the free programs versus the paid ones. I must have had half a dozen paid ones and the other half free. I have to tell you that the paid ones are worth their money. I'm a firm believer in working hard for what you have. Just like in school it is free to just sit however you get penalized. You get failing grades and don't get a job. Take it from someone who's in that situation. Then I see my sisters who took it serious and took what my parents gave them and ran with it. They graduated and succeeded. After college they went to work for companies that pay them and not wasting their life away. I'm starting late learning this however I hope someone else can benefit from my lost.

I also believe in getting what you pay for, but Borland hasn't been commercially available for a long time. If you paid for it, you've been ripped off.

Well my real mom bought me Borland C++ 2.0 for $150 and it has 5000 pages or so of manuals too included in addition to all the softwares in 12 diskettes or so. I have verified for the first time ever that it does indeed produce a 32-bit Windows software. Now the hard part is to complete all five thousand pages!

Well just as my real parents has given me a gift. I'm giving you a gift. However there is one obligation... you must receive the prayer I have given above. Unless you don't want the software that is authentic and worth your money!!!

Anyways you have to be extremely cautious buying on eBay. However I received both of my authentic softwares from various sources on eBay. I bought Borland Turbo Assembler 5.0 for 16-bit and 32-bit Windows for $101. I also bought Borland C++ 2.0 bundle that comes with a lower version of their assembler and debugger however powerful because it is for DOS. I believe that Jesus Christ who came and died 2016 years ago at 33 years old at 3 o'clock in the morning on Christmas day saved everyone not just me. So I am trying to share the love. What I recommend is if it is a product you want to look at the reputation and see how long they've been in business. See comments from others and not just new ones. There is no sure way so take out a limited debit card so you can have just enough money to purchase. However if they try to rip you off then you lost some few.

Try to go with Borland first for their updated compilers that compile even 64-bit. Embarcadero has compilers that compile ancient technology like 16-bit old machines.

I'm sorry my chess, programming, and Vietnam skills are the humblest ever to date. It took like 5 hours to get a simple 32-bit Windows program to print a simple sentence. Like I said I don't think their's anything in mind. haha

Anyways go to church if you can. If you can't then pray at home like I do. Try to go to a real college. I remember they had awesome computer compilers at academic prices.

    Thank you Jesus Christ.

Bless GOD, Jesus Christ, Mary, The Holy Spirit#

Then bless my real mom Huong Thi Thuyen Vu.

Honours to my real mom Huong Thi Thuyen Vu.
Honours to my real dad Nguyen Binh Thuy.

Congratulations to my real two sisters Nguyen Khoa Thuyen and Nguyen Khoa Thi.

P.S. Borland C++ 2.0 bundle should come with a Windows compiler however you might need additional resources so it might be incomplete. However look up Borland for their latest 64-bit development packages. The only problem is I think its a bit pricey and I mean pricey!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Please stop your preaching!
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

I see nothing to be jealous of, coming from a programmer stuck in the stone age - who's code is an unreadable mess full of goto's.

Programming for yourself is all you'll manage.
No one will hire you for your skills, with the possible exception of a museum.

Based on what I read, it can create 32 bit programs using one of the dos extenders.

DOS extender - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microsoft used the phar lap extender, including using the extender for it's 16 bit tool set programs (assembler, compiler, linker, ... , that run in extended 32 bit mode.

The only compiler that fully supported Windows 3.1 built-in winmem 32 bit mode was Watcom C/C++ 10.0. The rest required the win32s extension which was similar to the phar lap extension.

The reason that Borland Turbo C++ 2.0 isn't free is that it's sort of a collector's item and that it includes a full set of manuals.
