Question Some Noobie Game Designer Questions! ;D

I've been really into creating games since I was very young, but just recently started actually designing them for about 2 years now. I haven't been able to complete an actual game yet except for this paper and pencil game I created about a year and a half ago.

Currently I'm working on my first REAL computer game using C++ and SDL. I guess I just keep getting into snags along the way of my coding. For instance, I've been deving in SDL for a little bit now and when I think I'm on the road to learning how to code I need to download SDL_image.h and SDL_ttf.h which don't work even when I downloaded them. Also, I can design the hell out of a game but I'm not sure really how to write up a document. I'm sure when I go to college for game design they'll show me how to write one up but in the mean time I wanted to get some extra practice and a portfolio going.

I think SDL is the library that I want to use for my game. It'll be an RTS with RPG elements and I don't think I'll need any OpenGL graphics. Is there any language that might be easier to learn out there or do you think I should stick with the SDL? I can use libs for either C++ or Python, but Pygame just seems so weak to me. ;/

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Ogre + Blender. Ogre for the 3D game engine, and Blender to create your own 3D model. You make gorgeous game with these two tools :-D.

Can you program with those and or can you actually publish games with those?
