The Borland C++ 5.5 compiler and command line tools are available for free download from the Borland site.

The DOS window one is the only free one. If you are looking for the Borland windows client I can think of a few online stores or perhaps even your local software store for a few hundred dollars. These boards are not the place to look for warez.

anyways you can get borland 5.5 educational copy at a college store for under $100... same as borland 5.5 except you can't use it for commercial purposes... i'm sure its around the same price at a college near you... good deal if yah ask me... i prefer using over Microsoft Visual C++

The Borland 5.5 compiler and command line tools are not DOS tools. The compiler is a 32 bit Windows compiler. I do not believe you can write 16 bit DOS code with it.

That is what I meant. I am sorry if I threw you completely off when I said dos, though most people knew what I was talking about. To appease the masses I will make a correction: The one without a true GUI/editor... If this one doesn't do, please feel free to drag up an old post and correct me again.
The reason why it is important to make sure we are talking about the same thing is that some of the early versions of Borland Turbo products, which are DOS compilers, are also available for free download at the Borland site.

His/her original question may indicate that he does not want a DOS compiler but a Windows one...

if a gui is all you want then the basic compiler and a neat program called EditPlus is all you need. you can configure it to automate the whole "build" process for you.

I've downloaded it from Borland's site and my copy is about 7 MB.

Actually I thought the same thing adrianxw as thought. There really is a big difference between DOS applications and applications running in the DOS console.

There are several free GUI's for the compiler to be downloaded. Some quite excellent can be found at:

There are also programmer's editors, which support multiple languages and compilers.
