You google emacs.
It may seem hard to fathom, but emacs is not, actually, a compiler. You'll need gcc or some other compiler to actually compile your code.

What OS are you using buddy? How come your installation didn't come with emacs? (unless you are windows or a streamlined linux)
And I'm starting to think that the right answer is going to be "just ssh into the school machine".
Good point. Now the real question is "What is ssh, and where do I download it?"
