buy a book and have an inspiration to write something.
The crows maintain that a single crow could destroy the heavens. Doubtless this is so. But it proves nothing against the heavens, for the heavens signify simply: the impossibility of crows.
I thought I would try this once with a guy learning Java over on another forum. It wasn't for money, just out of the kindness of my heart.
Turned out the guy JUST DID NOT GET PROGRAMMING at all. I gave up after a few hours and told him to go find someone local to him so they could slap him upside the head whenever he didn't listen to what he was being told or implement the suggestions he was given. I won't do that remotely again. Too painful.
So, my advice to you - find someone local to you.
Mainframe assembler programmer by trade. C coder when I can.
when I first started programming, I already knew a program that I wanted to write. It helps a lot, because it gives you something to practice on. It turns out to be a lot more fun to write something that you're truely interested in also.
