Yeah, XP doesn't require quotes for the CD command. Other commands does require it, however. But messing around with DOS is the least I'd recommend.

Quite the contrary -- I would recommend trying it, at least. The OP will probably end up doing it eventually, anyway, so why not start now? And it's not like it's not useful. I use the DOS prompt very extensively whenever I use Windows. Do you know how much faster "copy" is than CTRL-C-V, in Vista at least?
And even in Vista, it's really messed up. The number of times I've typed something like "something -lots -of -flags" and then gone back and erased "something", in order to put another filename at the beginning. I press tab, and boom! The rest of the flags disappear.
But that's just most bash users will tell you. :)
One of the reasons I like Far - simple directory structure navigation + always ready cmd prompt in the directory I'm looking at + simple copying into the commandline directories names from 2 pannels and/or file names (and of course build in Hex editor/viewer with the History easy available)... Ahhh... Where is too much I like in this program :)
And don't confuse the NT command prompt with DOS - the only real similarity is that the old commands still work, but everything [aside from actual legacy apps such as "debug"] is rewritten to 32-bit code, supports long filenames, most things support recursive directory work, etc, etc.
