    I'd be more concerned with you doing strlen() on a double array than comparing an int vs size_t, but both are really to be avoided.

    Then use size_t to control your loop? That's just like asking, "I'm using a short int to control a loop, but I'm using an array which contains elements out of range of a short int". It's a design problem on your part, nothing to do with size_t...
