If you're interested in using the .NET Framework , yes move. If not I would propable use something like DEVC++ (if I was using a windows based pc).
move to .net if you have a choice. VC++ 6.0 is very very old, predates current c++ standards, so it does not recognize many current c++ requirements. The differences between the two compilers are huge -- see descriptions as M$ site.

Visual C++ 8.0 is the new version but does it compile c which is an old language?
