Poll() function

I have looked everywhere (obviously not in the right places though) for this but alas, nothing.

So's I was hoping on of you could help me, I'm simply trying to find out what in the nine hells it does (and all the other thingymajicks in poll.h). What do you use it for and how?

Even better, if someone could perhaps direct me to some documentation on the subject.
