What on earth does this mean?

If you're on an "always on" boardband type connection, what would "on the web" mean?
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

If you're on a Windows machine, there's the winsock library.

Go check out the sticky on the Networking Board. It's got links to good tutorials on network programming.
