    Joining an open source project

I'm a pretty intermediate c programmer, i have been programming in C constantly since more than year. When I say constantly, I mean nonstop. I've been looking to get into some open source development, but I really can't find any projects that I think I can understand. Most of the time, they're too low level (as in too close to hardware) or they are old enough that the lead developers have all left it. I am mostly interested in networks but anything interesting will do. For example, twisted (the python library), was a perfect match, but I'm looking for something that uses C.

    Thanks,
    Dhaivat

Have you checked with a Google for "open source projects", yet? I'd try a few other search engines, as well.

Sourceforge.net used to be a good place to look, as well.

I believe your stated problem is common place. If the project isn't completed in a reasonable amount of time, many of the programmers get bored and/or frustrated, and move on.

    gnu.org (still in progress)
    code.google.com

Either start your own, or pick up an abandon project like you said.

Have you been frequently visiting SourceForge.net: Help Wanted ?
