Yes. You probably have to manually name your source files with a .c extension, and/or configure the compiler to compile it as C code.

Correct, when you create a file, you have to name it .c, not .cpp which is what the IDE will do if you do not put an extension there yourself. And it's not fully C99 compliant - it has some elements of C99, but not others.
