    compiler ignores what i wrote

    I used the codeblocks compiler to write a program. When i hit the build/run button, it took me to windows command prompt and displayed ( Hello world! )... It just won't run anything i write.

    Complete guess: you chose the "hello world!" project, opened up a new file, typed your program in the new file, and then didn't add the file to the project. Does one of your tabs in C::B have a program with "hello world" in it?

    Yeah. That was it... That was back before I understood almost anything about using a compiler. I was just starting to teach myself programming.

    Codeblocks is the company that makes what i concider a very good compiler...

    Code::Blocks is not a compiler; Code::Blocks is an IDE.

    Nor is it a company.
    And there is no Code::Blocks compiler. The IDE is configured to use already available compilers such as GCC or VC++.
