Would it be easier? No.

Think of a magician asking you to pick a card, any card. You have to decide which card to pick, you can't just say "I'll take the whole deck, thanks." And keep in mind -- you already know which card to pick, since that is the whole entire point of having the variable i in the first place (to count which card in the deck you are currently working with).
