Just to clairfy: The interview was done via email in March of 2004.
I wonder how many people would call the following he has 'fame' - he's not 'famous' compared to britney spears, but he's definately famous among the (C++) programming community...MM: What is your method for dealing with the fame?
BS: What fame?
great advice, but not so easy to stick to when you're first learning programming. it gets easier after you know some of the science behind it and are trying to learn a new language though.Focus on concepts and ideals; don't get lost in language-technical details.

I definitely second that. Stroustrup is a name that every programmer should at least have heard of.I wonder how many people would call the following he has 'fame' - he's not 'famous' compared to britney spears, but he's definately famous among the (C++) programming community...
Anyone know what Bjarne's doing right now, occupation-wise?
He's a professor at a university in Texas (A&M?)
Let me go look

Am I the only one that thinks: he has to have, at one time or another, at least seen this board once the entire time it's up... especially since the site is the second google hit when you type in "c programming" (proof) and the 6th major hit when you type in "c++" (more proof). not to mention when you type in "C++ programming", the site is the first major hit, pushing his own page down to the second major hit (heh heh...)

Maybe he hangs out here masked with a hidden identity....I mean, there's no real way we could tell unless someone stalked him, figured out where he lives and what internet provider he's got, and then trace all the IPs on the board until they found him.....
I very seriously doubt he spends any real time here, or even have an account here--don't forget, it's the website that's linked, not these boards...

Yes but this board is extremely popular. We have contributed indirectly to the success of Google (I remember way back when we used to recommend other search engines and then primarily started turning to google - even though I didn't know what it was at the time), and Google has indirectly contributed to our success.
This board is awesome and I hope it stays operational for a very long time to come.
I would imagine that a lot of programmers have seen or heard about this board.
Yes, the 'real' programming gurus use newsgroups.Originally Posted by major_small

Also many from the C++ standards commitee post there.
