View Full Version : the last popup

thats it! i have seen the last popup i ever want to see!
Every where i go they rear their ugly little window to advertise something i dont give a damn about.

Whatever happened to targetted advertising? or do the site admin just think thats the one that gets most money ill stick it on the site - i dont care if the site is about programming i want popups that advertise viagra, goldfish bowls and offshore casino gambling accounts.

Anyway im babbling - my idea:

I would like to start up the international campaign against popup commercials. Just fill in an online form and when we have a million or so email addresses (ill sell it to M$ - he eh - only joking)
present it to all the advertising compaines and icaan and everyone and ban popups!

i would be happy to run this on my site, i have visitors from over 25 countries worlwide so could attract a decent audience. Then i would be looking for popup police - internet officers that surf in search of the popup and send that popup to where it belongs...

might as well try to ban commercials on T.V. while you're at it.

I am not plagued by pop-ups; I browse the web with Konquerer. :p

I am armed with PopUpKiller.

Lovely little program that kills any pop-ups that have the gall to pop-up. I am greeted with the sound of a shotgun firing and I see the annoying pop-up die. Quite enjoyable!

If you're interested, let me know and I'll post a link.

TV breaks provide a useful period of time for human maitenence (y'know, fetching some more beer from the fridge). Popups are just...evil.

popups are scum! yep - post that link but id still like to start a an anti-popup campaign!
as for the commercials - if you had to live with Sky-digital in th uk and suffered 5 mins out of every 20 commercials!!

that gives you 15 minutes to drink beer before the next refill. at that rate you soon wouldn't notice the volume of commercials :)

Sorry it took so long to post it. But I had forgotten where I had it

But I've found it!

FYI iain: There already is an anti-pop-up campaign:
Personally, I haven't visited this link, so I make no claims as to its authenticity.

true.. come to think of it, these companies want to advertise yet they are just ........ing people off. I really don't mind ads embedded in the main web page; in fact i think companies are better off leaving ads that way (at least i'll have a chance to glance at their ad rather than instantly killing a pop-up window).
