View Full Version : Well this is a sweet opportunity

I just got done with RPT (Regiment Prep Training, sort of like a week long boot camp before school) and am now in MUG month (Midshipmen Under Guidance, a period of strict rules before I officially become a Midshipman) at the Maritime Academy I am attending. I had been looking at the Job/Internship at maritimejobs.com for Rolls Royce as a simulation modeling engineer (predict ship machinery equipment, clutch engagements, and propeller/propulsion system optimization).

This school that I am attending is not a computer science oriented school by any means, but one of the professors happens to work for Rolls Royce as a consultant (he also teaches a class at MIT, which is cool) as a programmer/engineer. After talking with him about some of my own projects he offered to have me start doing a lot of the work he'd be doing and actually teach some of the programming classes that are required in the engineering departments (just a basic C programming course, and I think this school offers one assembly course, which I'm not good with).

A lot of the higher level stuff I'm not ready to do with, and just interpreting a lot of the results requires a PhD (e.g. computational fluid dynamics), but damn if I could get that on my resume...

And now I have to go polish my shoes, iron my uniform, and copy six pages of MUG rules...*sigh*

Sweet. Sounds awesome Bob. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a bit jealous.
