View Full Version : Why the hell haven't I used WinAmp before?

I love it to bits within 5 minutes of using it.

I downloaded it because I extracted the tracks from San Andreas and needed a good OGG player :)

T'is brilliant. WMP shall now sit in the corner and collect dust. Virtual dust. Anyone else use this? The playlist management is just perfect, the interface looks damn cool and I love the way everything has it's own place - the equaliser neatly slides in and out etc.

Radio X rocks. Jane's Addiction forever!!

Because the WMP was already installed, ready to do the job for you... untill you encountered a format it couldnt play....

This is one of the reasons this European Board of whatever forced microsoft to release Windows XP without the Media Player. Microsoft gave in, and in the end, people didn't buy the WMP-less version. The price for both was ( I think ) the same, so there really wasn't a point in buying the WMP-less version.

A while ago I got Winamp to listen to a streaming online "radio" station but never used it for much else, maybe I'll give it another look.

If you want a really nice multimedia player check out XMMS (http://xmms.org/)

It's only for Linux, but I like it a lot more than Winamp even.

WinAmp is fun. Highly useful for listening to the music DATA rips of oldschool console video games. :-)

XMMS annoyed me after some time. amaroK rules. (But it's *nix-only.)

I used to use Winamp, then I switched to foobar (http://www.foobar2000.org/).

I love winamp, though the modern skins bog down the player a bit.

This thread inspired me to redownload Winamp and now I'm addicted to it. It's MUCH better than WMP wow.

On windows I have iTunes (never liked WinAmp for some reason) and on linux I run XMMS for lack of a player I like better (considering doing my own wraper around mpg321)

I've always used RealPlayer, but no one else mentioned it. That makes me a bit worried.

I like anything you can skin and that is sleek and works quickly. Winamp suits my taste. I use iTunes on this computer merely because it works up to my standards and I don't care to install Winamp.

Apple should port iTunes to Linux :)

People use WMP to play MP3s?

Jesus, that's depressing.

08-21-2006, 06:33 PM
I'm one of those people that use WMP because it's there.

In my defense, my dial-up connection is too slow for me to actually bother downloading another one that I don't necessarily need.

On Linux, I use amaroK.

I use a multitude of other applications in place of WMP. Watch WMP crash and hang a few times and you'll search out the alternatives too.

I fail to see how so many multimedia applications can be written to perform their task flawlessly, with an excellent selection of features, and never hang, yet the Media Player designed exclusively for the OS it is shipped with and backed by an unequaled budget, fails so often on a simple request such as playing an AVI.

I'm an MS convert in many areas, but WMP is the IE of Media Players and its so very sad.

I know more people that use iTunes than WMP.

I've always used Winamp as it's the only player I'm aware of that has plugins that can play VGM-formats like NSF, SPC, PSF, GSF, USF etc. It is also a very slim player and the DFX plugin makes things sound better, but is not exclusive to Winamp though.

I use XMMS when I'm on Linux. I'm having a peeky at this foobar thing right now.
While listening to some OGG's on WinAmp, of course.
