There you have it; who would have guessed the internet wasn't a truck.

I can speak from personal experience however--it's frustrating when someone sends me an internet and there's so much damn clog the tube breaks.

OMG!

That was precious! I'm still watering my eyes from so much laughing. Thanks a bunch Valis.

I really recommend you people listen to the audio. It's... a classic. At some point you really hear someone (probably a fellow congresswoman) saying "Oh my god..." on the background.

Also click on the link to "why the internet took 5 days to reach the senator".

Valis, you made my day and it's just morning here.

I just can't bear to read so much this early (11:26) ... sigh. I'll save it for later.

Hey Mario, we in the same time zone?

Mario F.

Weird. Portugal and Scotland have the same timezone. well not now that I'm looking at GoogleMaps. Does Spain have the same?

No. Spain is +1. Only regions in europe with GMT are the British Islands, Iceland and Portugal. Everyone else follows our lead ;)

Forgot about Ireland (some Irish get particular about that). That's gotta be confusing if you live near the border .... hey, is that part of Spain that's above Portugal +1??

Galicia for you :p

I think not. It's the same timezone as the rest of spain. Not sure though. Why is this important anyway? You planning comming? Bring me a celtic shirt and don't even bother :p

Hhahahahaha :D Nope, just curious. I was talking to someone the other day about timezones in a pub, and he mentioned there was something funny about the time zones around the peninsula, so I thought I'd ask someone who lives there.

That is weird. Typical Spanish eh

I also saw this on the Daily Show. They did a funny skit of it later, I think you'll enjoy John Hodgman's take on net neutrality.

The video is very funny, but I don't see why everyone finds the quote so hilarious. It's an analogy. A drump truck is indiscriminate, a series of tubes may or may not be.

>I don't see why everyone finds the quote so hilarious

Didn't you hear him mention that someone sent him an email and it took a whole night for him to receive it because the tubes were too clogged with people pirating movies (or something like that).

This video of the same show is frieking hilarious - probably because even though they are going to extremes to be funny, the idiots are going to extremes to cure 'bad parenting'.

I enjoyed the game video as well, thank Bubba.

I find the quote funny because the man is obviously an idiot when it comes to this ominous "internet" thing. One could say it was just a poor choice, but he said someone sent him an "internet" and his argument as a whole was quite pathetic. His understanding is obviously--lacking...
Everyone knows the internet isn't a truck (even my mother :) )--and for that matter, a truck becomes full much faster than many tubes (toilet or food disposal for example). Why not pick a seemingly boundless mass like the ocean or a landfill?

Mario F.

Yup. They chose to pick on the truck bit of the senator speech. That is just one of the many rdiculous things he said. People sending internets to each other, is another example they could have picked on.

The truck though is an easier pick for a funny sketch to to be seen even by those who secretly think the internet is a series of tubes ;)

However, I laughed more at the senator speech than I did at the sketch. I love the Daily Show, but they got beaten in humour by a poor idiotic senator from Alaska. I guess that to be really funny you have to be part of the joke. :)
