I was wondering if anyone here has tried absinthe. I purchased 1.5L of La Boeheme Absinthe Original (http://www.laboheme.uk.com/) for $180 USD and it just arrived today. Along with it came the absinthe spoon, in which myself (and a couple friends) will partake in the famous 'absinthe ritual' of burning the sugar cube into a shot of absinthe.
Evidently, it can give hallucinations if enough wormwood (thurgen?) is ingested (but the brand I bought only has 1/10th that of the strongest stuff on that site, which would be the king gold).

The active ingredient in absinthe is Thujone, which comes from wormwood, (Artemesia absinthum), in this case. It can cause hallucinations, but is better known for causing epileptic like fits and kidney failure.

never tried it... its illegal in the U.S. and what i hear says you have to have pretty good sized ammounts of thujone(i think thats what it is) to cause hallucinations... but... it being 140-160 proof... it will get you drunk.

A friend of mine tried some once long ago... said it gave her f'ed up dreams. Isn't it supposed to be a licorice tasting drink? I hate licorice and so I don't think I'd ever want to try it.

I've heard similar. I believe that is why it is illegal to manufacture and sell in the US. What I purchased was made in the czech republic.

Hahahahaha, you remember that post I see. Sure, why not.

Yeah. I finally tried a shot last night. I went through the motions of soaking a teaspoon of sugar, lighting it and letting it burn for a minute, then mixing it in. I then sipped the drink from a 'fancy' glass. One shot did me in quite well, and I certainly felt great for a long time after but I did not experience anything other than the alcohol, that I noticed. It tasted absolutely horrible, quite literally like I was burning a hole through my throat, but I enjoyed it :) I don't believe I have the cajones to take a straight shot of it however.

I love the ritual of burning the sugar. For some reason it just feels like a sophisticated and classy drink, but bad-ass at the same time.
