> Wow I just realised it's all pretty much the same genre except for Timo Maas.

Rock's such a huge genre that that's easy to do. I mean, Coldplay and Motorhead are both considered rock, but they sound nothing alike.

I'm not sure I'd include the Gorillaz in there as the same genre, though. :)

I would post my list, but it's ever changing. I'll listen to most anything besides country or modern r&b, but mostly listen to rock and rap (like that narrows it down :p)

I'm not one to play favorites--they change by the minute, so: here's a list of songs from CD's I've actually payed for and have taken the time to rip to my computer, in alphabetical order. (http://www.johnshaoonline.com/misc/playlist/playlist.html)
not necessarily favorites, and I don't necessarily like every song in the list...

pick a random sample and call them my favorites (http://www.johnshaoonline.com/misc/playlist/)

I won't list every song, but I have various CDs from the following artists. Finch, The Used, Trust Company, Hoobastank, Breaking Benjamin, Adema and Earshot. Those are the ones I actually like enough to buy their CD.

major_small: Damn that list is longnot really... consider how many CD's you have, and how many songs are on each CD... I think that's only 39 CD's on that list... I've been trying to rip most of my collection, but I haven't had time recently...

U.S. That may be why...the bands I listed aren't international superstars, they are pretty popular but not that well known. Not really mainstream either.

Cool. What kind of music do they perform? Where can I get hold of some of their stuff - legally of course ;)

Not really mainstream either.
What? Every single one of those bands is mainstream, especially Hoobastank and The Used.

Glirk Dient

Those 2 I would say are, but not as mainstream as Linkin Park or that other crap. Most of the other bands I wouldn't even see some kid wearing a T-shirt of. I only consider bands "mainstream" crap when all the goth kids start buying their CDs and T-shirts because the band is popular. Not so much the case with those, except The Used is becoming like that. I don't mind if they are slightly mainstream...as long as they aren't really mainstream then it OK.

Do we really have to go through this again?

You made such a convincing argument last time, but I've forgotten it. Tell me again how a band gets worse just because more people have heard of them.

Start with a really underground group like Hoobastank.

its called when a band gets big and popular they let it effect what and how they play to much... and they start to suck.

>Start with a really underground group like Hoobastank.

... right...

Edit:: and anything that could be catagorized as part of "Pop Culture" is automatically .........

Edit:: by definition.

When a band becomes more popular they aim their music at what the fans want and what will sell the most instead of making the music from their own style. Not all bands turn to crap, and the music I listen to for the most part is main stream but when I say mainstream I mean the bands that have made the change described above.

My favorite bands are AFI, Against Me! and Alkaline Trio.

In reality though, I listen to anything that sounds good. It's better that way than how some people choose to be closed-minded about music and shun other genres besides their favorite.

I too listen to anything that sounds good and the fact all of my friends are so closed-minded when it comes to music is annoying. None of them like some of the things I like, and I admit I sway a lot towards rock, but there are many other songs I listen to from other genres. Check out my list.
