View Full Version : Someone keep me out of jail

02-13-2005, 12:27 AM
There was a hack attempt on a friends website/pc. This much is confirmed. I have the IP, the address, basically i know everything that i need to know and im about to pop.

The guy lives about an hour from me, and im about two seconds from driving there. So basically before i go there or return the favor with interest, how would you handle this?

His supplier is comcast.

File a police report, contact the attacker's ISP, contact your friend's ISP.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time on irc.
I got into an argument with an IRCop once and he ended up DDoS'ing me and tried sending me virii.

02-13-2005, 01:10 AM
Who cares? He probably tried to exploit some dumb PHP vulnerability. Forget it and move on.

Unless, of course, there's more to this.

Theres alot more, i just dont want to go into detail. This is not a SK and its not some little windows exploit...

Two cops are talking to each other after a long day of talking to kids about not doing drugs. One of the officers says that he managed to deter 7 kids from doing drugs just today. The second officer asks him how he accomplished the task.
The first officer holds up both hands thumbs to thumbs fingers to fingers and make a mushroom top shape with the forming hole and says "I told them this was the size of your brain before you do drugs" then teh officer made a tight fist and contined "Then I told them this was the size of your brain after drugs".
"Not bad" replied the second officer. Quite sure of himself the first cop asked the second how he did and the second cop said humbly "I managed to deter 42 kids from doing drugs." The first officer was in shock and mumbled "How?"
The second officer said "Well pretty similar to your technique actually but maybe a little in reverse" the second officer made a tight fist "I said, This is your anus before you go to jail for doing drugs........"

wow how relevant.

What better reason NOT to go to jail? I think its more relevant than your sarcasm dictates.

02-13-2005, 03:07 AM
I'm going to fax all the evidence and stuff to comcast after i call the abuse hotline, im sure that will go real far....:sigh:

I'm also going to phone the police in his area, and so forth. If they arent going to do anything ive got his adress, name, all that good stuff. I'm screwing him royal.

If that's the case, then why do you think he is stupid enough to leave behind enough info for you to get his ip address? My guess is he used a trojan to take over some grandma's computer, and then used that as a proxy to hack your friends.

02-13-2005, 05:01 AM
Does Comcast offer static IP addressing?

02-13-2005, 06:56 AM
Everytime you make me think you're halfway mature, you do something like this.

This world has rules. It's not some goddamn movie where you can go kick someone's ass because they've wronged you in some way. There are protocols in place to deal with people who are bad. They don't always work, but you know what? Sometimes life isn't fair, and you have to deal with it. If you go there and do something stupid, YOU will be the one who's screwed, not him.

Grow the hell up.

02-13-2005, 10:16 AM
im with bithub on this... unless you personally know the guy did it, there's no guarantee he did it, nobody i know of who knows anything cracks from their own box, that's just... retarded.

02-13-2005, 11:20 AM
Does Comcast offer static IP addressing?

In a way yes. In the past you could pay to have this option for like 2.00, but the way it works now is they dont change it unless the mac changes. So basically as long as you dont chnage the modem or router then your ip will pretty much never change.

One of the guys in our AA clan is firneds with this character and started defending him before i ever even accused him. I know where that guy lives, and its a complete match. Hes one of those arrogant "im the best you cant get me" types and doesnt care to spoof off other pcs.

I agree with GC I don't think guys like the one that released the blaster worm should be messed with!

GC most likely agrees with that he likes to say "I'm better than you."
Hint:(He's really mature. :p )

P.S. I know I'm probably going to get a bad rep, but I don' particularly care.

RoD comes out monthly with some ploy for attention. Car crash, dying friends, fights, thefts, whatever. Just wants attention, ignore it from now on - he's got the best advice from Cheez, DON'T attack the guy.

What the hell is your problem?

02-13-2005, 01:16 PM
wait you mean you actually understood that?

02-13-2005, 01:26 PM
Not precisely, but it sounded like he was whining about me. Your guess is as good as mine, though.

02-13-2005, 02:17 PM
Either you or Good Charlotte... :p

02-13-2005, 05:15 PM
dying friends........ Just wants attention

The rage im feeling at the current moment that you would even have SAID that makes me completely understand everything lucky said to me a few weeks ago. I'd call you a series of names, but going back to the situation with him and i i would just be mirroring myself.

02-13-2005, 05:22 PM

Actually, I'm beginning to understand more of what he says lately.

He has a really bad habit of taking the first half of one sentence (or thought in his head) and the second half of the next sentence his mind intends to process, and combines them into one really odd sounding statement. Completely discarding the important words in between.

For example....
GC most likely agrees with that he likes to say "I'm better than you." is the combination of....
GC most likely agrees with <snip> .... Kinda self explanatory based on the beginning of his message.

Then you have...
that he likes to say "I'm better than you." .... refers to the alleged attacker's motivation for making a hack attempt. (he gets this notion from the previous message in the thread)

The trick is to know where to snip it.

02-13-2005, 06:01 PM
I understood it as a sarcastic attempt at attacking Govtcheez's post(the one belittling RoD) and Govtcheez's character in general.

02-13-2005, 07:21 PM
Pop In. And Destroy him!

02-14-2005, 08:05 AM
I'm with GC on this one RoD. You're such a damn drama queen. There is no reason you can't tell us what he did, and if it was nothing more than just corrupting some files or messing with a computer, then I'd say get a life.

So until you actually decide to let us know what he did, I think your BSing and this is just a reason for you to sound tough.

02-14-2005, 09:33 AM
That's not what I said at all. I was saying if he is serious about all this, he's an absolute moron for even considering doing something.

02-14-2005, 10:30 AM
I wasn't saying that was what you said. I was agreeing with you and then I spouted my own crap.

02-14-2005, 11:51 AM
You can smack him around all you want, in the end, he will be indoors, still alive, downloading more goatse and playing CS. If he's a hacker, get him where it hurts... call his ISP.

02-14-2005, 01:22 PM
He got into the computer, stole bank and credit card information, adresses and phone numbers, and then racked up about 3500.00 in charges. His credit card company is some off name our state or somebody runs, and they basically told him to prove it or pay. Hes an ididot for keeping that information on a computer, but this is nuts.

You'd be just as mad as me, if not more. And sometimes when there isnt anyone else around, which is often anymore in my life, this is the only place i got to vent and rationalize. Thats pretty sad, but such is my life.

I'll just shut up, nobody cares anyway.

02-14-2005, 03:08 PM
I never did understand why anyone would keep bank/credit card info on their computer.

02-14-2005, 03:20 PM
Me either but they do.
