The man made one mistake (though a bad one) after decades of excecellent journalism. Give him a break. He admitted his mistake and made a very public retraction (not a quiet letter to the editor or something) and appologized. Move on.

The editors of NYTimes and USAToday also made one mistake, and they resigned - it is an honorable thing to do.
