In a real job, when a company assignes you / any team you might have a new project, how do most go about it? Do they say, "This is what we are planning, this is what we have made ideas about, this is what we are using, research and discuss" and then allow the programmers to discuss how they will go about doing something, and give them like a week or so to research techniques / ideas they may have forgotten / need to touch up on? Or what else do they do? Thanks for info :D !

Generally, a company will get a RFP (request for proposal) if they're to write an application for an outside company. The team meets and comes up with some basic specs, a timeframe, and a price. That is sent back as the proposal and the company who requested the proposals will choose one.
