A US side contributor to another site I used asked me to sign this petition. (http://www.petitiononline.com/hare1213/petition.html) I can't as it is only for US citizens, however, some of you might like to.

This is a matter for the police, not an internet petition. Besides, it's unlikely most of the people in this board (or even on the petition) live in the jurisdiction of that DA, so it wouldn't matter.

There are some weird, sick people out there.

Whilst a matter for the police (if they are breaking any law?) I am surprised no 'animal rights' activists etc havent shot them yet!

Yes, I guess it would be cruelty to animals. I doubt the rabbits would see it that way though.:)

The girl that posted that told me that in the US there aren't cruelty laws if the animal is being raised for food. This struck me, in Europe, we have all kinds of safeguards for animals whatever their purpose/fate.

well I know that girl is mistaken. Florida had a silly ammendment not too long ago that we had to vote on about pig farmers keeping their pigs in small cages. There are definitely laws protecting farmed animals here, so I don't know where she got that idea.

I understand that Matteo and Rosario Loverso cannot be charged with felony animal cruelty in New York, due to legal terms that define the rabbits as a “food source” rather than “companion animals.”

State specific perhaps?

That's either fake or disturbing.

If it's real, those people are already on their way to jail.

Or hell.

Probably both.

If you search the web for the names, you'll find this is actually quite a high profile case - it would seem to be genuine.
