This is kinda funny. Where did the term spam actually come from in reference to email? Was it an acronym? or does it actually come from the meat?

I've never really thought about where the name came from, but I seem to remember in the early days of email/internet the big joke was to email someone a picture of Spam with the note "You've been Spammed!" attached to it.

Thats my guess for where it came from, time to google for the correct answer...

It did actually come from the "meat" I believe. Spam (which is an acronym anyway) is basically the crap meat - like spam being the crap email.

Yes, but i believe there was a scene in monty python involving lot's of Spam in one way or another. Can't seem to find the original story though.

yeah, it came from monty python, which meant it as the meat, but it got related to mass produced badness, which is the internet-spam...

It's a definition and the source of the word...

well in that case I suppose Hormel really does have a case here. I mean you can't just use someone else's product name in your own. If it is derived from the Spam product as an original source then Hormel should win. Its just strange.

On the radio yesterday they said that Hormel didn't mind the word use; they just didn't like it when pictures of their product were used.

Your article seems to say both things... I'm confused.

if they only dislike the use of the picture then why do they want this company to change their product name?

::shrugs::

I dunno, but your article says both things.

If I had the choice of survival from eating my own snot and eating spam to live, I'd probably eat my snot. I would run out of supply of my green friends, so I'd probably begin to eat my legs. After that, I'd just eat dirt, or maybe even worse.......spam........
