I can't for a moment see how they could get it to work, but simply having the idea to do this would be worrying.

The TIA project would collect as much information about every single aspect of everyone in America as possible, from doctor's records to bank deposits, e-mail to travel tickets, phone conversations to magazine subscriptions.

You see, and people think I'm paranoid and/or crazy when I say
that I don't like putting myself in "the system." I don't like filling
out any forms for any reason. It took months of convincing for me
to even get a bank account.

A plea from the Bush administration calling on the Senate to back the project

If Bush wins the next election, I'm moving to Tokyo.

>John Poindexter.

Ahahahahaha! Poindexter!

"In other news, the US Government's technology sector says that it has come up with a new kind of "interactive" television. One will be installed free of charge in every citizen's home."

I'm excited to be living at the age of the dawn of a Brave New World. The world would be a better place if everyone was assigned a role early in life and learned to like it, and was monitored throughout life. No dissenters, no problems.

It worries me too.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

:sigh: What a nice dream.

I think you are paranoid.

By the way, I wouldn't mind about living in a "big brother society", I can have a big brother watching what I do, I've got no problem with that.

Yes, but does your big brother have nuclear weapons, an army and navy, control over the world's natural resources, dominance over the media, and the means to turn you into an "unperson"?

In the United States, a small minority of us are more concerned about what our government has begun doing after September 11 than what the terrorists, whom President Bush tells us are ready to strike at any moment just like our country's old enemies, the communists, will do to us next. Meanwhile, the majority of American voters may only know vaguely what is happening and are, thus, vulnerable to political rhetoric calling opposition to the PATRIOT Act, Total Information Awareness, etc. bad for national security and "dangerously close to giving aid and comfort to the enemy" (a common slur spoken by Republicans to Democrats and civil libertarians).

America may be descending into the police state President Bush claimed he wanted to liberate the Iraqis from, and the nation will only shout, "God bless America!" louder as it happens. I can't wait for when the president declares multi-party/multi-opinion politics unpatriotic and a potential threat to security and begins jailing political dissenters as potential terrorists who will be tried in a military tribunal without the protections of the Constitution or public inquiry.

Why must you post? They never make sense and they all mean the same thing.

Here's a tip, there HAVE BEEN MORE PRESIDENTS THAN BUSH AND CLINTON. For the love of God and a nice thread, will you PLEASE stop posting in political threads?
