View Full Version : What type of 3D game to make ?

10-21-2001, 02:13 AM
Hi, I am writing a 3D game in VC++6 using OpenGL and DirectX. This is to be my first game and so I want it to be a bit easy to write and not too big. Also, I want that it be so that I show it to my frendz and others, and it should have something new (not PACMAN 3D or ....)

What would be the best for me ?

make a racing game (oh no, that's WAY too used), or a good RPG

i'm going to make an RPG, although it's not going to be done in 3d for another 5 years... The 2d game should be out in 2 though.

good luck, man, and don't get discouraged.

Why, is game programming hard? I know nothing about it. Sounds interesting though.

it's like reinventing the wheel without inventing the circle.

That's deep man. I don't really understand it, though?

i don't even know what the hell i'm talking about, i was just trying to say that it's difficult.

heh, i try to appear wise, even though i just make half the stuff i say up on the fly.

Wow. You're the most honest man on this board.

well, i may be honest, but i'm not stupid.

It's all a matter of honour to me.

Make an Unreal emulation!! PLEASE! Then send it to me!

Make a flight simulator, perferibly a combat one. (over afganistan)

Wouldn't that be a hard program? Was is it like to program DirectX and OpenGL? Curious.

it takes some serious learning and dedication.. i've seen some openGL code, it looks rough. You can get wrappers for DX that are supposed to make it userfriendly, but, who knows?

Yeh, I don't know if I want to get into games. I'm not gaming-creative. I don't think I could think of anything interesting for a game.

i am quite the opposite: i had a rather original idea for an RP system and i'm in the process of making it a reality.

I disagree with Elus, I think that programming games becomes easy when you make your own library that makes things just the way you want.

You could make Flight Simulator 2002 and sell it to Microsoft, I have the box design, check it out.

making a professional game costs about a million dollars. You need architects, programmers, motion picture studios, engineers, blah, blah....

well, making a 3d game that is professional takes 20 years, or 1 million dollars...

Ron Biskup made the best RPG ever (ADOM) by himself... it took him two years, and it's a rougelike.

To me the hardest part of game programming is not so much the programming language, but the math and the physics behind it all. My education sucked in those two areas so i don't know Jack****t about 'em. And i know there vital for programming.

Oh well!:(
