That "have a cookie" crap is so D* annoying; it's neither funny nor clever. It is simply only annoying and shows your lack of witt. I'm not trying to pick on you, RoD, but that line just irritates the hell out of me. Sorry for the rant...

Good to see you back, Driveway, but as RoD stated it's not really all that neccessary to make a thread saying you're back but whatever makes you happy I guess.;)

Yes, it shows no cleverness at all, considering that so many people do it, huh. If it weren't that every person says "have a cookie" maybe it would be a little bit more original. People need to come up with new lines; that's all I'm asking. My D* thing may not be very funny, but at least it's slightly creative. Ah, .......... it I don't care!

And, yes, I knew you weren't being completely serious.

It's now 100

I don't like that. There isn't much reward for being a frequetn poster or long time poster. Personally this is how I think it should be for "rewards".

< 30 posts - junior member
less than 30 posts you are only a junior member

< 100 posts - member
more than 29 and less than 100 posts you are a member

< 500 posts or 1 year registration - senior member
more than 99 and less than 500 posts you are a senior member or by being a member for at least one year

>= 500 posts and min 6 month registration- special member
more than 499 posts and must be a member for at least 6 months

-only senior members and above should be able to have avatars
-only special members should be able to have custom titles

Well, at least sumpin along those lines. Then again all in all it doesn't really matter, and either way I'm going to go in with my life happily lol...

>>> There isn't much reward for being a frequetn poster or long time poster.

Believe me, there is no major kudos from being a frequent poster if the post quality is zero or worse. There are/have been several people here to whom a "high post count" is desirable and have spammed the board relentlessly to acheive it.

Hammer
03-12-2003, 06:48 AM
The limit was lowered with the idea that people spam the board just to get to a 400 post break point, which is something they do frequently. A lower limit means less spam, or at least that's a theory.

If people didn't spam to get the custom title, then yes, I agree a higher limit as a "reward" would be a better idea. But they do... so....

TechWins
03-12-2003, 05:02 PM
See if there is a minimum length of registration (i.e. 6 months) then there wouldn't be any real incentive in spamming. Even if the person does decide to spam the board they will have to still remain a member for quite a while before they can even get any of the special incentives. I don't see what's wrong with that.:)

yea.. but then people would spam to get to 500 or whatever then they'd just wait ;)

It should be rewarded by mod's for activity. If people post alot of good answers and questions, they should get the title option. If they ask alot of do my homework questions, spam or troll, they should be either booted or not given the title. Simple as that, or maybe not simple, just that. I dunno, that's just my opinion.

EDIT: I also think people should be rewarded from the IRC, because I've gotten alot of help from them, alot of effort over there. If only there was more activity.

03-13-2003, 11:27 AM
Custom titles and avatars shouldn't really be a reward. No point in building some foolish prestige system based around being ``good'' enough to receive such priviledges. Letting a new member with 0 posts have an avatar won't hurt people with 1000 posts :l

adrianxw
03-13-2003, 11:30 AM
I agree with ggs. I have said several times that the business of having post thresholds for things like that invites spam. The powers that reign have said, "it is fun" so there you go ggs, it is not a foolish prestige thing, "it is fun".

RoD

I think postcounts and titles are way over-rated.

drdroid
03-13-2003, 06:42 PM
well, my 2 cents were suggestions for if they keep title and counts. I'ts not my opinion, just a suggestion.

RoD
03-13-2003, 06:44 PM
Too many people view post counts as a, whats the word, a status so to speak. They seem to think a higher pc makes them l337 or something.

I say do away with pc totally, then just let them set their title, that'll drop spam.

I believe it was you who started to yell at silvercord (?) because he was a newbie (when actually it was Shadow#### (I don't the numbers of the name) registered under a different name). So making statements like that only shows your hipocracy.:p

"I also didn't learn opengl from you, newbie. I also am well aware that you don't know what the extent of my knowledge is."

"I am done with cprogramming for a while, some one email me when the ****ing newbs get a clue."

linky (http://www.cprogramming.com/cboard/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33271&perpage=15&pagenumber=2)

Sorry, but I find it funny that you of all people would say something like that. I think I remember you doing this to another person on GD, and you came out and apologized to everyone, as well. Hmmmmm... Not to mention that you have over 3000 posts, and you've only been registered under that name since Sept.

---------------------------------------

Anyways, I don't see titles and avatars as prestige. If it were harder to obtain a custom title and an avatar, then when you do get it (without actually striving to get it) it would be like when you find money that you didn't even know you ever had. It's a nice, little, extra bonus in a way. At any rate, none of it really matters. Good day now...

RoD

It was shadow, and i was annoyed at how an apparent newbie could know how much i know. He still doesnt know how much i know, and i still dont care that it was him. The assumption of newb based on the pc was fine to make. I'm not saying pc doesnt seperate those who have more time, wether concentrated or not, then those who dont, i am merely saying a huge pc is worthless. Please explain to me the point of having a huge post count? Sure i have a huge pc...ooooooooooooooooooo big $$$$ing deal. It doesnt help me sleep at night, i dont post to raise it, and i dont really give two $$$$s about it. In IRC a little while back the topic of pc's came up, and i didnt even know how many i had, i thought i had 1500 or so, because i dont care about it.

TechWins
03-14-2003, 09:37 AM
Yeah, that's cool; sorry for bringing it up. :) I thought I still had around 500 posts from back in fall, but no, I have 900 now. I didn't even realize I had that many posts, either. Actually enough, though, a lot of your threads/posts on GD are interesting, so keep postin' away por favor.

Hey, that's just peachy. You could do something a little more than saying "just STFB stoopid n00b". The forums have mods to enforce the rules - the other members are here to contribute code or whatever else they feel like. When you swoop down to pounce on a new programmer it reflects poorly on the board, and you aren't the board's representative.

RoD
03-14-2003, 12:39 PM
And just as well im free to express my opinion(thats my opinion anyway :P ), and its in my opinion that they should stfb. I'm not saying we dont have mods or that they dont say something (or do something), because they do. The point is if your not going to follow the rules, should you not expect a smart ass with way too much free time to say something too you? Would u really rather i used the mentality of a piece of plywood and didnt say anything i thought? Dont answer that last one.

Tell you what I hate. That's all the swearing I see on here lately. On all the boards. Whether it's partially obscured by various symbols $ or & or * or whatever it's still swearing and it still doesn't read very nice.

Govtcheez
03-14-2003, 12:46 PM
I'd really prefer the plywood. If it's really serious (not a STFB case), report the thread - otherwise, step off it. It's not your responsibility.

edit: And I'm not the only mod that feels this way.

RoD
03-14-2003, 12:58 PM
I have no opinion, for i am a piece of plywood.
