I'm wondering what the real meaning of the word "Duh" really stands for. I've always though of it as an ironic word, expression for "Duuuuh, didn't you know that, that was so obvious...  ").
I've used "Duh" in a couple of posts but I've been called cruel both times for doing so.
Can someone explain what that word really means, stands for?
Is it really an... evil word?

This post doesn't make sense... does it? :)

It can be used in your joking way, but it's also insulting sometimes... It implies what you said, but if someone doesn't take it as a joke.

Duh, everyone knows that.

Duh, I think means that for the brief moment they say that "word", they are immitating you and how you sound like a mentally handicapped(retarted) person because of not knowing something.

It's kind of like, "Duuur, im a tard!! :D:D" ..type of thing.

I think it's from a cartoon - when they draw a guy with big buck teeth and a small cranium in the old days he always puased in his speech and thought to answer... DUHHHH.... It also used be "A DOYYYY" or "DERRR" while slapping the profile of your hand against your chest.

It's like when ppl use "UMMM" excesively when they speak.

" A....... DUHHH I DUNT KNOW....A DOYYY"

If someone else claims to be offended, you could use the acronym finder (http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?p=dict&String=exact&Acronym=DUH) definition of "Don't underestimate him" and turn it into a compliment :)
