it's still in testing, and no, of course you won't have to pay for it when it's out.

You can get steam and try it out if you want

Okay...But is there any way that I can get the beta version? One of my friends said that I can download it from the net. Is he just pulling my chain?

CS 1.6 is a waste. It's laggy, frame rates are awful, and gameplay is lessened. I tried it yesterday and nearly puked. Don't bother until its out of beta. You'll regret it because it overwrites cs 1.5.

a) CS1.6 beta should not, and does not overwrite CS1.5, it copies CS1.5 into a new directory and then downloads 1.6 beta files over the top of the copy.

b) What are you talking about RoD?

c) I've really got high hopes for Steam, because of the way it works, it should allow for Valve to implement a more strict anti-cheat module, AND it in general liberates Counter-Strike (and TFC) from the crusty, 5 year old Half-Life engine. My personal theories are that Valve plans to merge TF2, CS1.6 (& CZ), and possibly a HL2 with Steam and their new internally built engine.

d) You can TRY the beta of CS1.6 if you download Steam v2, Valve has gotten many content servers up and running again.

it does not overwrite cs 1.5. i'm absolutely sure of that. but i have tried it, and i wasn't pleased. i liked the new additions, but overall it was buggy. hardware 3d didn't work for me, either.

I didn't try it yet, but I think it will be nice, I like v1.5, and hope v1.6 will be even better.

I think CS became a little ####ed up the newer the versions
became! These days you can't even make a normal jump
without being glued to the ground.

So
i guess I'm gona wait for it to get out of beta and then try it. It sounds...houw can I put this...*goes into deep thought*..."messy"

I've been playing v 1.6 for a while now, my thoughts:

1) Does NOT overwrite v 1.5
2) If anything, its faster for me ( both fps and ping )
3) I like the new weapons ( especially t's )
4) Smoke grenade is now useful
5) ALT+TAB out without losing sound
6) New console "smart" console (i.e. you type cl_ and get a list of possible variables to change that match that string )
7) Auto-join server option if your desired server is full.

Never crashes on me or is "buggy". Don't know what the problem is for everyone else.
