View Full Version : Polling the Public....How long have you used CP.com?

01-06-2003, 03:29 PM
Every once in a while the administration here at CP.com likes to find out information about our users in a more controlled way that normal. So for the next couple weeks I'm going to be posting some of the same old user info polls that old hats are used to, I apologize for this. But we've had big changes with the usership here at the boards recently so...always good to find out.

How long have you used CP.com? Please note if you've used the site for a significantly longer time than the message boards.

I selected 1-1.5 because i have used the site for a while off and on since last year when i was debating wether to drop vb and get into c++. I had a few junk names on the board but i never really got into it because i didn't know if it was what i wanted to do. It wasn't until this september when i was secured a spot in c++ class that i established a name. Again it was a quick name that really has no point, but i'm still using it because of the no-name changes rule.

Um, Kermi, wouldn't it be more accurate to just look through the list of members and their registration dates to determine how long they've been using the C Board? I imagine that'd be a fun program to write:p:)

01-06-2003, 04:27 PM
Sure that would work, but that doesn't tell as accurately who is actually on, not just posting, but on. A poll does because people see it and then answer.

7 years? has the board really been around that long? My 2 year anniversary's in about a month.

Ill be a member of this community for a year, I think this coming March, if I remember correctly.

CProg Rules! :D

It's been about two years for me, though I didn't use the site very heavily in the beginning. I only started using it on a more consistent basis.

01-06-2003, 06:00 PM
I voted 1.5 - 3 yrs cause I was posting under Unregistered for a while just asking programming questions before I decided to create an identity for myself.

01-06-2003, 06:22 PM
I registered in May of 2000... But back then I was known as "static."
I don't know how long I've been "ethic." Maybe a year or so...

01-06-2003, 06:45 PM
Only a baby compared to the rest of you guys. Only 3 months for me!

01-06-2003, 07:05 PM
I used a board Cprogramming.co.uk, which I'm not sure if this is the new generation of that or Im thinking of another site?

If this is the OLD site - it explains why I picked up with this so easily.

01-06-2003, 07:18 PM
6+ years off and on.

edit: on noting its now 2003 i have changed the number to 6+ from 5.

01-06-2003, 07:32 PM
about 2 months! (even younger that you, PJ :( )

01-06-2003, 08:08 PM
over a year for me now

01-06-2003, 08:56 PM
i started the summer of 2001 on the old ultraboard under the name Echoknight.

01-06-2003, 09:28 PM
I started to use this site a little bit around 13 months ago, and I didn't register until about one year ago. However, I still voted in the 6-12 months range, because I didn't really start to post until around March.

01-06-2003, 09:55 PM
came here in.....August or so of 1999....now its January of 2003...so thats about 3-4 years...(dun feel like doin the math, haha)

I'm pretty new to the community, but cprogramming.com was the first site I ever went to to learn C++ back about a year and a half ago (August 2001). I just found it by typing "cprogramming.com." Too lazy to use a search engine I suppose :p

01-06-2003, 10:25 PM
I started early 2001. So, it's 2+ years.

First board of my life and I'm still with. The reason is only C.

As I can remember the registration date showing now, with my nick is not the original one. Some sort of change was done in that time.

Any one of you can remember the incident?

01-06-2003, 11:28 PM
i accidentally clicked the wrong radio button. anyways, i put 3 -6 months, and i actually started posting in november, so more like 1 - 2 months. but i've used the site, not just the boards, for longer.

01-07-2003, 12:39 AM
1.5-3 years.

A couple of months before my registering date.

01-07-2003, 02:35 AM
>>> list of members and their registration dates to determine how long they've been

Would not take into consideration the years spent on the Ultraboard version that preceeded this one.

>Would not take into consideration the years spent on the Ultraboard version that preceeded this one.

Not to mention the board before the old Ultra-Board :D

01-07-2003, 07:21 AM
hmm... Aug 2001... so that would make it what... nearly a year and a half i guess... i still picked 1-1.5

01-07-2003, 07:46 AM
Kind of borderline, maybe, just over 1.5, started with a different name as well.

Also, found the site because it was listed in Deitel's textbook that we used in class.

01-07-2003, 11:10 AM
i registered in the begining of gr8, posted with a nonregisteres name before that in the old board and then signed up, i'm in 11 now, so that would make 3-4 years. or something like that, not sure.

01-07-2003, 12:54 PM
Started in august 2001, so almost 1.5 year here.

6-12 months...it is about 10 months to be more specific, but Iv'e been off and on due to work and my lifestyle.

My brother has been flittering around this site for awhile, he introduced it to me and here I am, 10 months later, caught.

I accidentally polled as my brother...*cough* he's been on since sometime in 2001...lucky kid.

Around one year, here. I first posted to get some help on programming my PDA. (Oh crap, I left that guy waiting! brb...)

01-07-2003, 10:25 PM
I Register on the first day I visit the site because I was looking for a group of exclusive C programmers.

So, I did not hesitate to include me.

01-08-2003, 05:01 AM
I've been registered for about 6 months, but I've been active for about 4 months...

01-08-2003, 05:05 AM
Around 10-12 months for me. Found it when i actually became more serious about my c++.
Well, at least when i knew some stuff, and didnt annoy everyone with stupid newbie questions all the time :)

>>> Not to mention the board before the old Ultra-Board

Ah well, when I surfed in for the first time, it was the old Ultraboard. In fact, it had just become it because I remember reading some of the messages concerning things "I like/dislike this feature", "this was better/worse on the old board" and so on. In fact, many of the topics raging then still crop up and rage every now and again on this board - says a lot about something...

01-08-2003, 03:48 PM
Desember...that's all I can remember. Whenever we had that stupid board glitch in the old UBB script that caused the date to read "Desember", it was probably a little before that. I just said 1.5-3yrs to be on the safe side. I came after the old board's colors were changed to blue, but a few months before the Newbie Board was banished for good.

Hmm...maybe it's been more than 3 years? Somebody change my vote to more accurately reflect how much of my life I've wated here! (I'm pretty sure it's been a bit over 3, so really - could someone change my vote?)

Damn, cheez, go take a look at your join date, and then go take a look at mine.

Hmmmm, except for kermi's I don't see any join dates berfore
8/10/01. Actually, I'm sure I joined here the previous December under the old board.

I started in summer 2002, not sure the month. I joined when I became serious about learning C++. I had been on and off for a few months about learning it. I first tried to read a book on C++ a couple of years ago but couldn't make sense of it. CProgramming has made a big difference in my programming life.

on the old board I was known as wiseguy. Or was my nickname Sunlight  ?. (I wish :D)
But I don't think anyone remembers that I made about 10 posts on the old board. I wasn't even registered.

I joined with the old board back in June or so of '01. Anyone got a link to the old board, by the way?

The old board got accidentally deleted... There was still a copy of it on the Wayback Machine, last time I checked.
