The "PC performance test::test for those of us with dialups" was closed due to bandwidth with all them pictures. Maybe this would be a good reason to enable the [img] tags? Afterall, if we can upload a picture it's not as though we are stopped from posting innapropriate pictures. Enabling the [img] tags should help reduce bandwidth usage, right?

not really, if you post it its still being displayed by the server.

01-05-2003, 08:13 PM
yeah but its not stored on this server, hence saving space and bandwitth

01-05-2003, 08:15 PM
Yeah, I mean, if it's located on another server isn't it using that server's bandwidth instead of the cprogramming.com one to display the picture?

01-05-2003, 08:30 PM
yes, thats what my last post said

01-05-2003, 08:32 PM
yep, it sure did :)

I agree, allowing us to load images from other sites using the img tags will allow us to post pics without putting strain on the server.

We dont have many threads with picutres, and I really dont see the need to have pictures, but it wouldnt hurt. There are many sites which, are specifically used to host images.

Yeach, but they never listen to our suggestions...

01-05-2003, 09:37 PM
But wouldn't it use both servers bandwidth? Think about it, the cprogramming server has to go get the file so it can be displayed when ever it gets to an <img src> tag. Is this true or not?

01-05-2003, 09:38 PM
nope, the browser will download the image from the other server, not the cprog host

01-05-2003, 09:39 PM
Not entirely sure because I'm certainly no expert on how these vBulletin boards work

01-05-2003, 09:39 PM
Doesn't anyone find it ironic that the thread which was specifically created with dialup users in mind was shutdown for excessive bandwidth usage?

01-05-2003, 09:47 PM
Lol, yes. But then again, that's why I posted in my last post though that even on dial-up I wasn't having any problems with 75% of the pictures.

you know people, you could have just as easily (if not more easily) typed out your scores instead of having to upload all of those pictures onto the server...

01-05-2003, 11:25 PM
That's exactly what I was thinking DavidP.
Not to mention that it was a bragging thread.

There are several people on this message board who have computers that would put yours to shame. Why? They need them for their jobs. Some people need power that an allowance or working at McDonalds can't pay for.

I mean, the text bit would've done fine because as we witnessed Ride or Die edited a picture to show false results so it's not like pictures can't be edited to show unrealistic results.

01-05-2003, 11:54 PM
It's much easier to fake typing that it is a picture.

But that's not the point of this thread ;) I just don't see a whole lot of reason to not have the [img] tags enabled, and maybe if they were enabled we would be able have threads like that without the worry of it getting closed after only 3 pages.

And yes, I suppose it was a bragging thread, but once again, that is not the point of this thread. Anyway, I'm a member at the madonion boards (now futuremark) and that is more like a bragging board :p.

What was that saying again? Oh yeah, a picture says a thousand words.

Take it up with the webmaster.

Just remember Salem's signature when he replies to you though.

In other words, it's up to him! :)

"The avalanche has already begun, it is too late for the pebbles to vote"

Yes, I know. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that I have a huge chance of making a change. I'm not exactly a big part of this community, despite how long I have been here. However, it takes only one person to gather the masses and stop the avalance.

Well, don't get me wrong, I think the board could use a little revamping and you're idea does sound good I will say. But, to be honest, it is afterall ther webmaster's dear baby we want to mess with.

I don't think it's much trouble at all, isn't this BOARD just the YABBSE FREE bulletin Board.

Just tell him to turn it on.

No, this is vBulletin - the "original", I believe. The first to use the now widely-copied interface (phpBB, YABBSE, whatever).

it won't make much of a difference on a large thread like the one being discussed.
