You sound spoiled to me. I would take any bloody job for practically any salary, taking crap from everyone, but I can't. I really envy you face_master, so be happy with what you have!

Trust me. It sucks.

I wouldn't care if the actual job sucked. As long as I'd get the money I'd take whatever crap there'd be.

OK, lets see here...

------------

Rate of pay: AU$6.731/hr (sundays - AU$9.5356/hr)

Avg. number of dickheads who complain bout somthing to my supervisor, but have to be directed to them by me/hr: 4

Avg. number of managers on a power-trip who ........ me off/hr: 1

Avg. number of customers who complain about something and think I care/am going to do something to do about it/hr: 3

------------

So, thats 8 things that happen/hr on avg, so that means that every 7 1/2 minutes, im being hassled by some retard! Im getting payed 89 cents each time this crap happens, and the rest of the time Im carrying out this crappy job.

I rest my case :)

BTW, im still open to ideas, like I said in my original post.

Ok, I would have been totally fine with that job.

Well, I guess we went a little of topic here.

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for computer/programming related jobs.

Sounds to me like you're a crappy worker, face - hopefully someday soon one of your managers realizes that.

Yeah, your apathy towards customers is disturbing.

After reading many of face's past posts I believe it's just his whole demeanor and attitude that needs changing. One day he'll realize it and shape up....hopefully.

Face, if you can't handle the pressures you get from working in a grocery store then you'll fail miserably in the IT/computer/programming field. It's no cake walk....you have supervisors, users, etc breathing down your neck and every one of them thinks their problem is more important than the next. You either need to change your attitude towards people and authority figures or because a street peddler/begger or other profession where you make all the job decisions.

What's minimum wage?

joshdick
01-03-2003, 11:45 AM
Minimum wage is $5.15/hr. in America.

Yeah, this was a one-liner, but there's not much to say about minimum wage. It's not enough; it sucks.

Uh oh, I feel a rant coming on. Maybe this won't be a one-liner after all. This may seem incoherent and is probably just a lot of faulty logic and anger, but bear with me.

Why can't a guy like me get a half decent job? I'm sixteen and a senior in high school. I'm a pretty smart kid, sixth in my class or something like that. The whole purpose for going to school and college and getting an education is to get a better job. The concept is that the more schooling one gets and the better in school one is, the better job one can get and the more successful one will be. However, my good grades and above average intelligence don't result in getting a better job. In fact, quite the opposite is the case. People with below average intelligence are able to devote more time to their jobs, because they don't have tough classes and often don't participate in extracurricular activities. Those kind of people have more money than me. This really doesn't seem right to me. I think there's something wrong with my education if it can't do what it promises—get me a better job with more money. I really wish there was a job out there for me: one that would require knowledge of calculus and C++. I would love a job like that.

I had a job like face_master's this summer. I didn't mind the customers as much as he does. What I hated was the physical labor involved. I had to lift 30-40lb. boxes above my head in a freezer. You ever try lifting heavy boxes while standing on a frozen floor or try working in a freezing freezer for extended periods of time? I don't suggest it. This may sound arrogant, but I don't feel that I should be doing manual work when I have other talents. Also, manual labor makes me bored out of my mind.

Whew, that rant took a lot out of me. Well, let me know what y'all think about what I said. I guess now I ought to be prepared for an onslaught.

Sometimes you just have to deal with adverse situations until something better comes along. I graduated college with a Computer Info. Sys. degree and couldn't find work so I had to get a part-time job doing extreme physical labor. I was working on an assembly line lifting 25-200 lb fiberglass molds onto a conveyor. It was extremely hard work and made me bust my butt to better myself to get a job in the IT field.

You're young so just hang in there.

I worked a very similliar job at 15, up until i turned 18. i did what i had to do, now i am making 11.25 /hr sitting on my ass, pressing keys, for a living. I'm the assistant tech/manager for the IT department of the local gateway country store, and my job is to keep the network up.

Hang in there.

man in california the min wage is around 7$. 6.71 au= around 4$ US. I agree that is a **** job. Mabey the cost of living is cheap in australia but still. Just keep an eye out for better jobs. Over here you make more then that working for the california conservation corp, and they take teen labor. I've seen 18$ an hour just for colecting entance fees to a lake(for swiming).

Face, how long have you worked at your job? My guess is around 3 months, because I used to be the sameway about my job around that time period. I've worked at my job for around 11 months now, and I'm pretty immune to anything that can happen so nothing really bothers me anymore. So once you get to know everything about your job it will be as much of a big deal to you. Stay in there because I know just how annoying customers can be sometimes.

Btw, I work at mexican food restaurant that has a fast food pace to it. It's hard to explain.

What i'd do is make a list of all the complaints and categorize them by stupidity. You can collect stupid comments much like another would collect stamps.

That would make the job much more fun.

Well, then I don't know what your problem is. Have you thought about getting a job at an electronic store or something like that?

mexican food !!! ... yummm.

Yeah, our food is so good; I love it. But it's not exacly the most healthiest food for ya.

Try coming over to Alaska to work on a fishing boat in the summer...in three months you can make several thousand dollars, plus you get to see the sites of Alaska, things few ever see.

Face_master...your 15? I thought you were in your early 20's...well, that explains a lot however....

I used to work for UPS (United Parcel Service) "BROWN". They have a union - you start at $8.50/hr, .50 cent raise per year. If you take a test you can bump your pay an extra $1.00/hr. After 1 yr I was making $10/hr which wasn't bad for 19.

The only drawback was the job was manual labor - you have to load trucks from 5pm to at least 11pm most of the time we went to midnight or even 2am.

Here in America the grocery markets are all union so they pay pretty good. The only complaint I would make about your job is the pay, it sucks, the rest is a blessing - "trust me".

couple summers ago i got paid $75 for ripping off the roof of a house:D. It was kinda fun.

Hell if you guys complain about lifting 30lb boxes. . . damn!

thats nothing. try building a bob-wire(sp?) fence with you, your 12 year-old little brother, a ****load of 8 foot metal posts and a 45lb sledge hammer, around twenty acres. . . that's hard, and for **** for pay, and I had to do it if I wanted to continue to live in my house. **** It took me almost a week just to put the damn poles up then I had to **** with the wiring. most of you guys got it easy.

One more thing, when I had that JOB my worst enemy were these IDIOTS that were gas station mechanics. These have to be the most stupidest ppl on the planet - they would ship BLOWN OUT TIRES or just things that were obviosly trash but the reason they are really stupid is....

They would wrap 250 BOLTS -weighs 70lbs- and wrap them in a paper bag or brown paper wrapping to ship them. The thing would explode on the belts or it would CRUSH 10 other packages and then EXPLODE when you tried to load it. How can we wipe these ppl from the face of the EARTH pls help - and then don't ask about when they actually work on your car.

What happens when a GAS STATION MECHANIC (MORON) works on your car - you shorten the lifespan of the CAR by about 2 yrs for every trip to that BASTARD.

Anyone else notice that lately the General Discussions forum has become a place where angry and depressed teenagers go to complain? I'm not saying that I don't take part in the pity party, but, you gotta admit, that when you step back for a moment and take a look at the threads lately, this is all really funny.

Ooohh, that reminds me, I have to find a job to cover insurance costs on my car.

Stop complaining, face. Compile something like The Gord (http://www.actsofgord.com/) if it'll shut you up. Dealing with people isn't all that hard. Plus, from what you posted, you don't deal with anywhere near as much idiocy as normal people do. Grocery jobs are amazingly easy. Quick cash for doing brainless work. You can't complain about that. Plus, you're not going to find many people willing to hire 15 year olds.

>>you gotta admit, that when you step back for a moment and take a look at the threads lately, this is all really funny.

I've been laughing insanely hard at half the threads I've seen lately. Usually face's. No offense or anything...teen angst at its funniest.
