View Full Version : AIM patch....yeah right

What do you call it when a software patch creates more bugs than it solves?

One issued by AOL, that's what. I let my mouse hover over one of my idle buddies in AIM to see how long they've been idle...check this out...pay attention to the online and idle times...;)

Things like this make me glad i don't use their browser.

maybe its just that the program has gotten so complex it knows how long they have been sitting around doing nothing, even if they arent logged on.

i know, i know... i shouldnt be defending AOL...

>>so complex

yeah...sure.
If by complex you mean unmaintanable mounds of code. I remember 2 betas ago they had hacked the update so bad that when you signed on or reopened the window and it refreshed your buddy list it actually showed the file download window (downloading data for the current list from the server). Those guys are so hilarious.

Actually it does do that. It is not a glitch. The idle time records the amount of time your computer has gone with no input at all from you, the user. Many times people have their computers set up to automatically log on to AIM at certain points in time, or when certain things happen, such as booting up or other things, and so when the computer logs the user onto AIM, without any user input, and the user has already been idle for a little while, it is possible that the idle time will be longer than the online time.

THAT'S JUST SILLY. Next we'll be saying the sequence of bits currently stored in my RAM resembles the DNA of frogs (resulting in mutant frogs jumping out of my processor)

what i love most about aol is they're DOM for javascript, in different versions they support if differently. They own netscape yet they support the DOM the same way IE does...i think they changed it in version 8 but i don't know....morons....hell would freeze over if they could write one decent peice of software.

Been using trillian for more than a year, never a problem on aim/icq/or msn

...
11-24-2002, 05:16 PM
yeah, trillian is neat, though i had no idea so many people used it.

the thing that got me origionally about it was that i used to use ICQ a lot, and trillian allows me to talk to people on my ICQ list using a more AIM style chat window, and also allowed me to have my AIM list and ICQ list combined together to form one 'master' buddy list.

Same here, i was on a uo shard called Dragoness. Everyone used icq so i needed it, but hated its interface, then they got me into trillian.

you play UO?? sweet!

thats the whole reason i got ICQ in the first place.

i played OSI for a couple years, and then played on a lot of free shards. i eventually found the alter realm (www.thealterrealm.com) which im sure youve heard of if you do much shard jumping. it sucks now and lately ive just started playing again on a shard called icrontic (www.icrontic.net). i think im pretty burnt out on the game in general, but its like crack...

Ultima Online. I read a comic once on icq:

g = guy one
g2 = duh
c = computer

g: "Ok, now i will guide our plane and its passengers to the ground, open the landy gear."

c: BEEEEEEEEEP

g2: "What the hell?! A message on icq!! NOOOOOO"

c: *bombing noises and explosions*

g: "I find it sickening that a program created by aol was the cause of our un-timely deaths."

Need to get laid? Pshaw! Haven't you heard about me, kermi3, and the box of crayons? And l@d and I have been fooling around with FAQ submission sex for longer than I can remember...

And I'm deeply sorry for offending you by not finding a joke that you didn't even create funny. I should really know better.

cgawd - getting around the filter by using 13375P33K to respell your messages doesn't work.

Ladies, ladies - be careful, peoples' posts will begin to turn pink.

The final judgement on the funnyocity is that Shadow's joke was mildly funny and RoD's joke was lame. Thank you.

....[nasally voice]"So I was sitting around up-linking my flux capacitor, when a MOBO signal appeared on the LEDS! OMFGLOLMSADJSAJLK!!!!!!!"[/voice]LOL! I can seriously imagine that!

I love computer jokes. Its what sets us apart from the people who have lives. Actually, I sort of have a life, but the part of me that has a life will ultimately destroy the side that has a serious life. For eg, one side is making go to a party this friday which will cause the other half of me to stagger into work the next morning (@ 9:00am) really wasted, hence destroying my carear at Woolworths (yay)
