View Full Version : Can't make up mind... xbox, gamecube or ps2?

10-06-2002, 04:41 PM
I'm thinkin of selling some gcn games and getting a different console... which one do you think and why?

10-06-2002, 04:47 PM
unless you have a lot of time free, buy none.

Buy PC games by all means-you will be on your pc anyhow :)

Its only worth buying if you will use it-trust me i know.

10-06-2002, 04:50 PM
oh yeh i forgot to say-you may think you will play the games to death, but i bet you wont...so buy PC games..the others are tat anyway.

except that hmm oh yes Halo, and Buffy on Xbox-they are good.

mario was released on cube in UK yesterday, and my boss bought it---she's a bit angry-says its poor.

PS2? hmm well lots of choice..hehe

10-06-2002, 04:56 PM
Did you mean lotsa choices of games?

10-06-2002, 04:58 PM
Yup, he does. I have PS2. I'm currenly hooked on Midway's(he unrealistic company) MLB Slugfest 2003.

10-06-2002, 04:59 PM
If i get it I won't be able to wait for gta vice!

10-06-2002, 05:12 PM
Well, its no good buying one because you are waiting for a certain game!

I did mean lots of choice btw yes...

Choose the one with the most games that you like...

Cube is Nintendo. what more do you need.Remember the old Nintendo games? Wow.

Course PS2 hugeley supported!

And x-box....chip it, rip out the HD, replace it with 120gb HDD, have a broadband conn, then never pay for another game again..oh yes you will need that controller software thingy.

Beats paying for games though huh?

10-06-2002, 05:18 PM
I sure wish I wouldn't have bought my X-Box, because I barely ever play it. I haven't even played it since the end of July!

10-06-2002, 05:24 PM
only reason i'm leaning towards ps2 is because i'm starting to like rpgs a bit... especially after programming a few... and i kinda like some of the racing games... i'm going to compare release dates... but all in all i'm about 75.9% sure that ps2 is worth it... but i'm about 80% sure that I won't even have to sell my cube... :D

10-06-2002, 05:49 PM

1) More game choices

2) Better game play.

3) Average Price

4) Has ATV Offroad Fury

10-06-2002, 06:02 PM
As I said though (and tech wins said) why buy if you wont use..you say now that you will, but I bet you dont!

And what is wrong with PC games (A.Nothing) in your opinion.

10-06-2002, 06:52 PM
I never said there was anything wrong with pc games... but a group of friends can't sit around a computer and play a game together... as opposed to a console game.

10-06-2002, 06:58 PM
PC games are the best. i wont play any game that doesn't have multiplayer. The other day I bought Soldier of Fortune 2 for $90AU ($45US) and I couldn't play it cause my crappy graphics card is crap. Now I have to wait till I get a new PC. I'm soon getting my own PC (not the 'family computer') in my room. To get it i just need to save up another $315 !! WOOOHOO!

10-06-2002, 07:07 PM
Is there that much a disadvantage buying it 2 years after its release?

10-06-2002, 07:10 PM
Why would there be? Just becuase a console is 2 years old, that doesn't actually change it at all.

10-06-2002, 07:13 PM
i wouldn't buy an X-Box for free! after those ass holes screwed everybody and are making us wait a ****ing year for Halo!!!

what a bunch of ***gots

10-06-2002, 07:18 PM
ps3 comes out in 2005... at which time they'll probably stop making games for them... right?

10-06-2002, 08:11 PM
Buy a PS2 if you want lots of game choices right now. Buy an XBox if you can wait for more good games to come out. Usually it takes a couple of years before great games start coming out for a particular system.

I have an XBox and have no regrets. Halo...game of the year. You can't go wrong with that especially if you have lots of friends over.

10-06-2002, 08:17 PM
2005 is a looong way away...
Think about how many games will be released from now until then. If I were you, i'd go with the PS2... the XBox is just a giant money-making ploy, what with the DVD controller and other junk.

Plus, the PS2 has the FF series on it :)

10-07-2002, 02:34 PM
Are the graphics and loading times really excruciating?

10-07-2002, 04:29 PM
could anyone that owns playstation 2 comment on this question?

10-07-2002, 04:33 PM
ps2 isnt that great if you ask me lol give me a pc any day :P
even though if i bought a console it would have to be an x-box for halo and deadoralvie and amped :p and starcraft:ghost!!!

10-07-2002, 05:05 PM
i think its funny how they officially announced xbox 2 and are still loseing money on xbox 1....must be nice to have so much money

10-07-2002, 05:15 PM
Really? They lose money on a console? Like every1 else does? OH wow.

More games released, more licenses, mountains of cash from every game sold .:)

The money will return-guaranteed!

10-07-2002, 05:29 PM
Sony - Broke even if not a little over with ps2, which was funded with sales of radios and walkmans.

XBox - loseing money on xbox.

Nintendo - making money on cube, only company to fund its new console with console sales.

Well, it looks like I'm the outcast, but I'm gonna tell you that Super Monkey Ball 2 is one damn fine reason to buy a cube.

10-07-2002, 06:43 PM
I have cube... anyone wanna compare gamecube to ps2? I just read an article talking about ps2's use of vector units and cpu... They have good hardware they just don't know how to use it... meanwhile nintendo has the full force of a nice cpu and a great graphics card. Any opinion on this?

Oh and if you want to read more about the hardware, go here: http://cube.ign.com/articles/086/086984p1.html

You can sit around a computer and play games with friends. As far as tag team style games go that can be manipulated accurately with a regular pad....go with whatever PS2 cord adapter you want, and buy the Hot Rod SE (http://hanaho.com/products/HotRodJoystick/index.html)($200 without tax or shipping) or the X Arcade (xgaming.com)($200 without tax or shipping). You'll need 2 for 4 player games though. I have one of each and the Hot Rod SE is way better.

* note: X arcade works on new systems while the Hot Rod SE outperforms the X Arcade in every aspect.

Ive got PS1, and its still running fine. PS/2 would be my choice, plus it comes with a dvd, which is another neat feature.

I dont have a dvd player, well I have one on the comp but, I would get PS/2 so I have a dvd and a game station, not just a game station.

Does ps/2 have a mod chip yet?

10-07-2002, 07:17 PM
You can turn an xbox into a dvd player also. You can get the remote for free with the current promotions. Damn Xbox too cheap to pay the DVD fee so they pass it on to us. Also Xbox comes with a harddrive. You can rip music to it and listen to your own tracks in games like Project Gotham.

10-07-2002, 07:25 PM
PS 2's DVD's quality is comparable to a video-tape recorder (guys in HK talks about it)

That game is insane. Pure Nintendo!

The multiplayer is fantastic!

Cant leave it alone when you start.

Single player not bad either.

What's your favorite PS2 Game? How do you think GTA: Vice City is going to be?

10-10-2002, 06:13 AM
i would most definitely go for PS2...
there are a LOT more games (old PS included)...
X-Box and Gamecube are just getting started, so you could expect more soon, but i think PS2 is still better...

(299 reasons! lol)

i really dont know - i dont play too many PS games...
but i like fighting games mostly...
tekken, rival schools, etc...

10-10-2002, 11:16 PM
except for a couple of games i think ps2 is better. i actually have both. i lent the xbox to a friend, and i probably won't evan ask for it back. i like to play online, and i think ps2 has alot more to offer in that respect. plus the hardrive is comming out soon...

10-11-2002, 06:23 PM
Any body fancy a game of monkey ball?

10-11-2002, 09:27 PM
Super Monkey Ball 2 is Definetly On My GCN Top 5 Game List:

1. Animal Crossing
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee
3. Super Monkey Ball 2
4. Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
5. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

10-13-2002, 09:51 AM
none of them are really worth the purchase now. There just arent really a lot of good games for any of the next gen consoles. It's sad but i think its true.

But i'd say go with a ps2 or xbox.
